Kogan again tops consumer complaints list

The New South Wales Department of Fair Trading has again named Kogan the State’s most complained-about company on its new monthly Complaints Register for February 2018.

The upstart e-tailer registered 72 complaints in February 2019 and its sub-brand Dick Smith recorded another 11. As the Complaints Register received 472 new entries in the month, Kogan produced 17.5 percent of all complaints.

The combined total of 83 has saw Kogan beat combined complaints for Apple (36) and Samsung  (43) all by itself!

Other tech-related businesses also drew consumer ire: JB HiFi and LG Electronics scored 16 apiece. Retailers Harvey Norman and The Good Guys, both of which sling computers and associated products, generated 32 and 19 complaints apiece.

Electrical and whitegoods products regularly top the list of monthly complaints, followed by smartphones and accessories.

The number of complaints recorded on the Register fluctuates markedly. In some months the “leader” will have as few as 30. A score of 70 or 72, Kogan’s January and February marks, are seldom achieved by any company. Infamous smartphone reseller Android Enjoyed, which regularly topped the Register after enraging consumers by failing to ship devices, scored 78 and 77 complaints a month at the “peak” of its powers in April and May 2018.
