Dell Technologies Tuesday unveiled a new breed of all-in-one PC for the workplace with the launch of the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra.
Here it is!

The new PC is the black box floating in the middle of the picture. Dell reckons it takes the compact desktop concept to a new level by offering a form factor that is small enough to fit entirely inside the back of a monitor stand, offering a "zero-footprint" desktop PC design.
"Thirty-five years ago, Dell disrupted the way PCs were made and delivered to the world," said Dave Lincoln, vice president of fixed computing at Dell, in a news release. "With the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra, we are changing the category again, with an innovative desktop solution that’s hidden in plain sight.”
Dell said that the PC enables the aesthetics of an all-in-one PC, but with an upgradeable, modular approach. The Ultra can be paired with Dell P Series USB-C Monitors and Dell's Height Adjustable Stand, the company said.
Because the Ultra can be easily removed, it can be swapped out, upgraded or serviced as needs arise for the user.
Monitor stands that integrate the Ultra can also offer enhanced physical security to thwart attempts at tampering, Dell said.
The "ultra" in the name of the desktop could be seen as standing for "ultra compact." The OptiPlex 7070 Ultra is just 20mm thick with a width of 96mm and a height of 25cm.
That small size enables the desktop to essentially disappear into the back of a display stand. The PC also weighs just 635 grams.
Processor options consist of eighth-gen Intel Whiskey Lake processors, topping out at the Core i7-8665U (quad-core, clock speed of up to 4.8GHz). The Core i7-8665U and one other available processor for the Ultra, the Core i5-8365U, also include Intel vPro.
For memory, the Ultra offers a range of options, starting at 4 GB of RAM and reaching up to a massive 64 GB of RAM.
On storage, up to 1 TB of NVMe SSD and 2 TB HDD are available in the Ultra, Dell said.
The Ultra can support up to three displays, ranging from 19 inches to 27 inches in size, Dell said.
Ports include Ethernet; two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports with DisplayPort; two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports with PowerShare; and USB 3.1 Gen 1 with SmartPower.
The OptiPlex 7070 Ultra will be available Sept. 24, Dell said, and the company's local channel will be pressed into service to sell the device.
