New Pivotal Australia MD plans channel push
Anthony Clarke, Pivotal Australia

Pivotal has a new country manager: former CA Technologies senior director for sales Anthony Clarke has clambered aboard and now plans to expand Pivotal’s channel.

Clarke told CRN that while Pivotal’s position in Australia is strong, he feels it’s not achieved the same level of success here as in North America or Europe. He therefore hopes to win work with more top-tier corporates and feels the channel is the way to get there.

And he thinks the recently-announced Pivotal Container Service (PKS) is the way to get there, as its ability to quickly deploy containerised workloads across on-prem and cloud will tap into developer enthusiasm for microservices. Clarke said his initial meetings with customers have evinced enthusiasm for container-centric development for both application modernisation and cloud-native greenfield apps.

Clarke’s initial impression is that VMware’s channel – especially local integrators – will see most benefit from a Pivotal partnership.

Pivotal’s pitch to those organisations will include its membership of the Dell family, and the chance to help clients pay down technical debt with application renovation projects that take legacy code into the cloud and/or more manageable forms.

“What we need here is scale,” Clarke said. “The big opportunity is to leverage the partner ecosystem that we have and look at those that want to come on the journey with us.
