Photos: Galaxy Tab stars in Samsung universe

Samsung last night showed off its Christmas lineup of devices including its Galaxy Tab Android handheld device that takes aim at Apple's iPad.

On display were devices from external hard drives, pico projectors, laptops and multifunction printers to digital still and video cameras and mobile phones. But the Galaxy Tab and series-nine flat screen TVs with 3D software gathered most attention.

Samsung has high hopes for its $999 Galaxy Tab running the Android operating system. But it faced competition from the established iPad, which starts at $629 with a bigger screen.

The South Korean chaebol showed off how the Galaxy Tab integrated with its series nine TVs over Wi-Fi but it will push the two devices through different channels. Telcos and mobile phone shops will sell the Galaxy Tab on plans to defray the cost of the hardware while TVs will move through its traditional audio and hi-fi retailers.
