Six ANZ security specialists merge to create $100 million Optic Security Group

Six Australian and New Zealand security specialists have become one in a mega-merger to create a $100 million trans-Tasman physical, IT and information security company

Optic Security Group is comprised of two Australian companies: Security & Technology Services and Bemac, and New Zealand physical security company Fortlock, which recently acquired IT firms Comsmart, Circuit Systems and SSL.

The new company has over 200 employees across 10 locations in both Australia and New Zealand and boats close to 1000 existing customers with combined revenues of $100 million, and claims to be the largest independent information security group across the Tasman.

The company will be led by Fortlock chief executive Jason Cherrington under a new senior leadership team, though management will not be changed at a business level for each individual unit.

“The formation of the Optic Security Group will enable us to meet the needs of customers as converging security requirements grow and become more complex, be they physical or digital," Cherrington said.

"These threats are now exposing directors to a complex liability that if not mitigated successfully lead to significant financial, criminal and brand damaging outcomes that boards have to be fully aware of, and then protected against. That’s our purpose."

He added that Optic Security Group would be able to provide additional services to existing customers under the new company umbrella, and would partner with other security firms like Australia's Cyber Audit team for independent information security and cybersecurity assessment.

“We also had a particularly clear vision to create a trans-Tasman capability that has full geographic coverage across both markets and depth in technical and industry expertise to tackle these emerging challenges and deliver appropriate solutions to our customers – now achievable with a scale presence in both Australia and New Zealand,” Cherrington added.

Optic Security Group officially launched today.
