Telstra gets first dibs on Surface Go with 4G

Telstra will be the first telco in Australia to sell Microsoft's Surface Go with 4G LTE capability when it goes on sale on Boxing Day.

The telco will sell both consumer and small business variants of the device with support to connect to Telstra's 4G network. The consumer plan starts at $65 per month and includes 40GB of 4G data. Small business customers can either buy a 128GB Surface Go with Windows 10 Home installed for $65 per month including 30GB of data, or a 256GB device with Windows 10 Pro for $85 per month.

Microsoft revealed the 10-inch Surface Go in July this year, its cheapest Surface device yet with a starting price of $498 for the base model with 64GB of storage and no 4G. The 4G LTE variant with 128GB of storage retails for $999 from the Microsoft Store.

The 4G LTE version comes with 8GB of RAM and is fitted with a 10-inch display with 1800x1200 resolution. It's powered by a 7th generation dual-core Intel Pentium Gold processor and a 64GB eMMC solid-state drive in a fanless design.

Telstra's acting group executive for consumer and small business Michael Ackland said the offer coincided with its new small business offerings revealed last week, which includes new small business mobile plans and a dedicated SMB channel.

“At the heart of our new approach for small business is choice and flexibility – both critical elements for success in today’s fast-paced business environment," Ackland said.

"Our partnership with Microsoft on the Surface Go 4G LTE provides our customers the choice of adding powerful and portable technology to our flexible Business Choice mobile and tablet plan. It’s a great combination that enables businesses to be more productive, more mobile and more connected than ever.”

The Surface Go 4G LTE will be available from Telstra from 26 December.
