Superloop's Dan Whitford

Network provider Superloop has appointed Dan Whitford as general manager for strategic sales.

Whitford was Vocus Communications general manager of wholesale and was let go after a company restructure. He is the second Vocus wholesale executive to join Superloop this year.

In January, Vocus executive director of corporate and wholesale Matthew Hollis joined Superloop as the group general manager for sales and marketing. Whitford will report to Hollis.

Whitford has more than 15 years of experience, having worked in telecommunications for most of the time. He worked as a business development manager for Optus for two years then joined Telecommunications company Pacnet in the same role. After two years he joined Vocus in 2008 where he was most recently general manager of wholesale.

Whitford said that this was a great time to join the company as "the market is getting a greater appreciation of Superloop's unique position as one of Asia's leading telecommunications infrastructure owners".

According to Hollis, Whitford will bring his experience in the telco space and in major strategic deals.

In October 2016, Vocus founder James Spenceley resigned from the board of directors, along with Tony Grist, after a leadership disagreement.

In February, Vocus and Superloop entered a $20 million agreement to upscale Vocus' ethernet and fibre capacity across Australian metropolitan and regional areas. The agreement is for a 15-year period.

Superloop's most recent market move was the acquisition of telecommunications infrastructure provider SubPartners for US$2.5 million. SubPartners will offer Superloop strategic assets including the ownership of international submarine cable capacity as a member of the Indigo consortium.
