CRN Channel Awards Australia: Finalist Q&A with Aroon Wadvani, Partner Sales Manager, Australia & New Zealand at Cloudera
Aroon Wadvani talks being a finalist at this year's CRN Channel Awards Australia
What prompted you to enter the CRN Channel Awards Australia this year?
The last 12 months have been about proving what's possible when you invest in your partner ecosystem. Together with our partners, we've shifted the conversation from AI pilots to production-ready solutions that solve real business problems. That's something worth celebrating. Entering the CRN Awards is an opportunity to recognise not just Cloudera, but the innovation our partners are bringing to customers across Australia and New Zealand. The work we've done together through initiatives like our AI Hackathon showed what's possible when you combine trusted data, open technologies and strong partnerships.
What would winning this award mean to both your teams and your customers/partners?
This award would recognise the commitment our team and partners have shown in building solutions that create real business value, not just interesting demonstrations. It would reinforce that success comes from collaboration and from putting customers first. For our partners, it validates their investment in Cloudera and gives them another reason to engage customers around trusted AI. For customers, it's confidence they're working with an ecosystem focused on delivering outcomes, securely, responsibly and at enterprise scale.
What would you say is your company's proudest achievement over the past year?
I'm most proud of how we've helped partners move beyond talking about AI to actually building it. Our recent AI Hackathon highlighted this perfectly. In just a short period, partners developed practical solutions ranging from automated software remediation and conversational analytics through to AI-assisted proposal generation and government innovation assessment. These weren't technology experiments. They were solutions designed to solve genuine customer problems while maintaining governance, transparency and human oversight. That's where we believe enterprise AI creates the most value.
What have been the biggest challenges of the current year so far and how have you overcome them?
The biggest challenge hasn't been convincing organisations that AI matters. Everyone knows that. The challenge has been helping customers understand how to operationalise AI securely using their own trusted data. That's where we've focused our energy, working alongside partners to demonstrate practical use cases, accelerate skills development and prove measurable outcomes. We've also embraced open architectures, so customers have the flexibility to choose the models and infrastructure that best fit their business instead of being locked into a single approach.
What lessons do you think the industry has learned over the past year and what changes does it still need to make?
The biggest lesson is that AI alone isn't the competitive advantage. Trusted data is. Organisations are realising they need strong governance, security and quality data before AI can deliver meaningful outcomes. The industry also needs to move away from chasing the latest model and spend more time helping customers build sustainable AI strategies. Success will come from openness, interoperability and giving customers the flexibility to innovate without losing control of their data.
What do you see as the main opportunities for the industry in the coming 12 months?
The biggest opportunity is helping organisations move AI from experimentation into production. Agentic AI, conversational analytics and industry-specific AI applications are creating enormous potential, but they'll only succeed if they're built on trusted, governed data. Partners have a critical role because they understand customer business challenges and know how to turn technology into measurable outcomes. That's where we'll continue investing, helping partners build repeatable AI solutions that are secure, scalable and designed for hybrid environments, so customers can innovate and succeed with confidence.
