Facebook and its sibling apps Instagram and WhatsApp have experienced a partial outage impacting users' ability to share photos and videos.

Facebook was up, but the world's largest social network was failing to load images. Instagram was experiencing difficulties with its Stories feature that posts temporary photos and videos, while WhatsApp users complained they couldn't send photos or video messages.

According to Facebook’s platform status page, in the early hours of the Australian morning the service was “experiencing degraded performance across our platform API endpoints. We are working on a fix that will go out shortly.” The page indicated that the company was dealing with a “partial outage.”

"We’re aware that some people are having trouble uploading or sending images, videos and other files on our apps. We're sorry for the trouble and are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible. #facebookdown," Facebook wrote on its Twitter account.

Those three sites faced similar problems in March 2019, when Facebook revealed that global service disruption was caused by a server configuration change.

In that March 13 outage, the Facebook Platform used by developers to build apps on Facebook changed from reporting health to notifying users of a partial outage. The current disruptions have not impacted the developer platform.
